Confessions of a Market Gardener

Welcome! This year, I will be starting up my career as a market gardener. What are my credentials, you may ask? Well, I have none. This is a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants operation. I have been a lifelong gardener, basically growing anything I can get my hands on. I've grown vegetables on and off all of my life. About three months ago, I was outside surveying the Back 40 (the 1/10th acre that comprises my back yard) planning how I could squeeze in more raised beds. I had successfully grown a ton of veggies in the beds in 2008, and wanted MORE for 2009. MUCH more. We had so many veggies I ended up foisting off the excess to neighbors and coworkers. So, that day three months ago, I went to bed with veggies and raised beds on my mind. At 2:00 a.m. Pacific Time, I woke up, sat up in bed and shouted EUREKA! I WILL SELL MY EXTRA VEGGIES NEXT YEAR! DH mumbled something in his sleep and rolled over. My path was set. My purpose clear. All those years growing vegetables, shopping at farmers markets, the greenhouse that currently housed ailing cacti, squeezing every bit of yard space I could, it would all finally pay off. Self reliance? Quality food to feed my family? Monetary savings? These would all be mine! And did I mention I will be doing all this ORGANICALLY? Stay tuned...............
